Vehicle tax: For a typical taxable WV vehicle purchase, 6% is calculated on the DMV-approved taxable value of the vehicle you purchased, not on our $99 service fee or other charges. Sales below $500 normally have a $30 minimum. Trade-in credits, private-sale valuation rules and exemptions can change the amount. A $10 DMV lien fee applies for each recorded lien. Hybrid and electric vehicles have higher WV registration fees, and other transactions may cost more.

When you have just purchased a vehicle and we process its title and registration with a new permanent plate, we can issue a temporary tag while the permanent plate arrives by mail. The temporary tag is $5 total; that is the same amount we are charged, with no extra markup.
